Who is a Gifted Student?
At Oxley we are committed to the specific needs of each individual student. Individuals who are considered gifted can be described as having advanced ability compared to that of their same aged peers across one or more disciplines. In this context, we can say that a gifted student is one with high intellectual ability.
All students have strengths and areas of challenge. At Oxley, we aim to celebrate and nurture students’ strengths as well as support and develop areas they find more challenging. Our Gifted and Talented Education program is one such way.
Our Senior School Gifted and Talented Education program encourages aspirational attitudes to flourish. Building on the pursuit of whatever is true, good and beautiful, our SPARK program shines a light on the true potential of our gifted students. We have a varied approach to enhanced learning opportunities through 3 streams:
SPARK
Students Pursuing Academic Rigorous Knowledge
Students who are identified as high ability are challenged through this stream. SPARK focuses on enriching a student’s learning experience and maximising their potential to succeed.
- SPARK Enrichment
Students expand their horizons and engagement with enrichment activities and experiences. Competitions, special interest classes, and excursions inspire a love of learning. Recognition of achievements sparks motivation.
- SPARK Excellence
Spark Excellence is designed to nurture the talents of gifted students through a comprehensive approach. This program emphasises academic excellence and personal growth, keeping students engaged through:- Project-Based Learning
Students tackle global issues, improving their analytical skills and creating solutions. This turns theory into real world problem-solving. - Accelerate
Catering to each learner’s needs, we allow advanced students to progress at their own pace inside the classroom. This might involve fast tracking subjects or advancing to the next year-level.

Aspire & Achieve
Aspire & Achieve
Motivated students who aim high and set specific learning goals find their perfect fit in this stream. Students in this stream may or may not be considered gifted.
Through a tough but rewarding journey, they unlock their full potential. They achieve more than they thought possible.
- Extension
Students are provided with higher-level content designed to develop and extend their abilities to the level they aspire to. This rigorous learning will take time and effort to achieve.
- Resilience
We guide students toward precision, equipping them with the tools to bolster resilience. We foster persistence. Students become focused, empowered towards their aspirational goals.
STEAM
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics
Students of high ability, talent or motivation also partake in our innovative STEAM program. We focus on the practical skills and emerging technologies that will feature in their further studies.
